ALL BOSTON BASED BANDS !!
late last night i found myself walking through a residential street with google maps pulled up, wondering if i had typed in the right place. ahead of me i saw a warm red glow cast on the sidewalk illuminating a man in a vampire-y/pirate-y shirt & a guy in a full gorilla suit? (it was honestly a little unsettling because whoever it was, was very tall). as i approached i recognized the vampire/pirate as the drummer, dylan perry, of exit 18. dare i say all the members of exit 18 are some of the nicest, down-to-earth people. exit galleries felt like an elevated garage band venue with art by boston-based artist & designer sam fish decorating every open spot on the walls. i was immediately obsessed with the space & definitely want to go back to see another show there with friends.
at 7 pm, members of all three bands were chatting & applying halloween makeup on one another. the atmosphere felt intimate & relaxed with the first band, inplainsight, doing a mic check. the show kicked off at 8:15 pm with lead singer of inplainsight, jxzmine, demanding the attention of the room despite her mic being a bit low. the band performed several songs off their singular EP, trials of violet, that was released in february of this year. their most streamed song, slip, felt like the perfect blend of emo, pop, & rock about feeling trapped inside your own head with no one there to catch you. out of all the bands they had the most classic rock sound. when i spoke with jxzmine after the show, i asked if they were a berklee band. her response was no, "we're sad. we're poor. & not even actually from boston" -- sounds like a proper band to me.

exit 18 was next to the stage & i can't lie, i was very excited to hear them live again. this time i even knew some of the lyrics to their songs! julia's costume & makeup were perfect for the occasion -- the jute shibari around her torso was tied by herself. every time i've heard seventeen & i'm scared of me live i want to keep reliving it. during their set, julia got up on what appeared to be an amp & threw her arms open wide to the audience while serving her unique, powerful vocals. i am truly amazed by her voice & the acting that she puts into her performances. if i were to compare when i saw exit 18 at warehouse x a little over two weeks ago & how they performed last night, i'd say they just keep getting better & better.
also if i'm not mistaken🤞, today they posted on instagram teasing a new song called, late night style, which will add yet another hit to their roster.

jesse detor & her band took the stage decked out in the lorax group halloween costume -- jesse detor as the onceler, emma the guitarist as the thneed, sam the bassist as the truffula tree, & the drummer daisy as the lorax themself. this band rounded out the night with their girlrock anthems that encapsulate the female experience aka the struggles of sexuality, relationships, & growing up. their music felt a little bit like mainstream rock which aligns more with my typical music taste. despite their most popular song being, sofia i'm sorry, my favorite song of the night was, hands, which unfortunately was written with a darker history to it. jesse spoke before performing this piece, saying that she wrote it at 17 when older.. boys in her life were messing with her heart & mind. the song was her wish to be able to rip off their limbs so they couldn't leave & so she could reclaim herself. upon wrapping up their planned set the audience began calling out for "one more song" & without much further begging for an encore, the band performed a cover of miss chappell roan's femininomenonininonmomno. yeah, i still can't spell it without searching it on google.
what a way to spend a night, in an art covered garage rocking out to local boston talent.
